of\u00a0<strong>Mount Somma<\/strong>, it has long been a sought-after holiday resort.<\/p>\n<p>It was dominated from above thanks to the\u00a0<strong>Castle<\/strong>\u00a0which in 1085 hosted\u00a0<strong> Pope Gregory VII <\/strong>\u00a0and in\u00a0<strong>1304<\/strong>\u00a0was destroyed by\u00a0<strong> Charles of Anjou <\/strong>\u00a0and then rebuilt from\u00a0<strong>1567<\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0<strong>Bernadetto de' Medici<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The town preserves several\u00a0<strong>churches of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries<\/strong>\u00a0including the imposing sanctuary of\u00a0<strong>St. Michael Archangel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div id=\"pgc-10946-0-1\"  class=\"panel-grid-cell\"
